Protect and restore the integrity of Earth’s ecological systems, with special concern for biological diversity and the natural processes that sustain life.
Colombian Earth Charter Youth Group ASOTEMIRE organized a social event on the beach in Antioquia, Colombia in May 2010. The purpose of this event was to get together and have fun while doing it for a good purpose.
More than 70 people, including also friends and family members of the activists of ASOTEMIRE, cleaned up the beaches of Antioquia. According to Carmelo Daza, the coordinator of ASOTEMIRE, everyone had good time cleaning, playing and swimming. Therefore putting the Earth Charter in to action caused something good not only for the environment but to the whole community of Antioquia, too!
This is a great example of an important activity that everyone is able to organize within their own communities.
