ECI Secretariat participated in Climate Action Day

October 24th was International Day of Climate Action! 350.org is an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis.

On last Saturday, people in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet’s history. At over 5200 events around the world, people gathered to call for strong action and bold leadership on the climate crisis (http://www.350.org/).

Also Earth Charter International Secretariat took part on this important cause. On Friday, Oct 23rd, we took a 350-group picture at the University for Peace campus. And on Saturday, together with the students and staff, we organized a clean-up parade in Ciudad Colon, in town where most of us live. We designed big posters with 350-related messages to carry through the town; we collected garbage from the streets, football field and churchyard to our recycle boxes; we passed through the busy farmers market and handed over flyers; we taped “Solutions”-posters to the phone booths and groceries…

In addition Earth Charter International Secretariat launched a global Earth Charter Radio Campaign on International Day of Climate Action. This was done to remind people that climate change is ultimately an ethical issue; mitigation and adaptation to climate change requires a change of our mindsets (based on the best available information) and a change of our hearts (based on a sense of universal responsibility). The Earth Charter provides an approach for educating and motivating people and governments to act with the necessary sense of shared universal responsibility.
