Educating for the 21st Century

The world is changing at an extremely rapid pace, affecting the essence of how we learn, interact, and work. It is more imperative than ever before to build capacity in our students to contemplate and pursue engaged citizenship, both locally and globally. As educators, can we create learning experiences to equip our students for a future that is constantly changing? This week-long course is designed for educators working in formal and informal settings, within institutions and in grassroots community contexts. During the course, we will explore a variety of pedagogical approaches and real-life examples that take into account the challenges and opportunities facing education and society in the 21st century. The course will demonstrate the need for the integration of intercultural skills and peace education into current curriculum. The Earth Charter will be presented and discussed as a unique educational framework for helping build a more sustainable, peaceful and just global community.
