Brice Lalonde is the current Special Advisor on Sustainable Development to the UN Global Compact. Prior to his recent position of UN Assistant Secretary-General, Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Mr. Lalonde served as French Ambassador for climate change, French Minister for the Environment, Chairman of the Round Table for Sustainable Development at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Senior Adviser for the Environment to the French Government. In addition, he held the position of Director of the Paris office of the Institute for a European Environment Policy.
Felix Dodds is a fellow of the Global Research Institute at the University of North Carolina and an Associate fellow at the Tellus Institute. He is co-director of the Nexus 2014: Water, Energy, Food and Climate Conference. He is a writer and was for twenty years Executive Director of Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future (1992-2012). Since 2007, he has been an instrumental leader of Race for Tomorrow, a public campaign to reach the UN Millennium Development Goals by 2015. He is a member of the UN Habitat World Urban Campaign Steering Committee. He is an author, futurist and activist. He has been instrumental in developing new modes of stakeholder engagement with the United Nations, particularly within the field of sustainable development.
Gemma Burford is a Research Fellow in Sustainable Development at the University of Brighton, where her current research focuses on participation, values-focused evaluation and sustainability. She participated in the research project where Earth Charter International was also a part of it, and which focused on creating a values-based assessment framework for sustainability. She was the lead author of this project’s latest publication: “Bringing the Missing Pillar into Sustainable Development Goals“. This article suggests to bring the ethical dimension into the current drafting process of the post 2015 development agenda. She previously worked in Tanzania for more than a decade as a Founding Trustee of the linked NGOs Aang Serian (‘House of Peace’) and Serian UK, co-designing innovative education and research projects with Maasai community representatives and helping to establish a thriving intercultural secondary school in a remote village. She is a co-author of diverse publications on environment, health, gender and development issues, and a co-editor of the World Health Organization Global Atlas of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
