The Fundazione Cogeme Onlus (Cogeme Foundation) emerged from Cogeme group that provides public services (such as energy and water) to 70 local communities in the region of Brescia and Bergamo (Italy). The Foundation supports projects to promote a culture of sustainability in social and environmental contexts and chooses the Earth Charter as a framework for its efforts in the area of the education for sustainability. The Fondazione Cogeme Onlus is an ECI Affiliate and is actively disseminating the Earth Charter values in their region. 
As one of the Foundation’s activities within the framework of the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development, Fondazione Cogeme Onlus is organising, in cooperation with Municipality of Castegnato and with support of UNESCO, Earth Charter International, Italian Ministry of Education and University of Brescia, the Earth Charter congress “WEB OF LIFE – Towards an Integrated Vision of Reality.” The event will take place at the students hall of the Engineering Faculty at the University of Brescia on November 28, 2009.
Dr. Ervin Laszlo, a leader in the efforts to promote sustainability and systems thinking, widely recognized as the founder of systems philosophy and general evolution theory and the founder and President of the Club of Budapest is expected to participate as a special guest of the congress and deliver a key-note speech. Dr. Laszlo is the author or editor of sixty-nine books translated into 19 languages, and has also over 400 articles and research papers, along with six volumes of piano recordings to his credit.
The ECI will be represented by a member of the Earth Charter International Council Dumisani Nyoni (Zimbabwe) who is to make presentation “Embracing the Future with the Earth Charter”.
The organisers see this event as an opportunity to extend the debate about the educational potential of the Earth Charter, with a special focus on care and respect for the Earth and the whole community of life, and also on building of sustainable communities with a systemic and integrated world view.
Organisers believe that modern science and spirituality are beginning to converge: from cutting-edge science emerges the realization that the universe is not a realm of lifeless matter moving about in outer space, rather it is a dynamic, self-evolving whole, integral at all levels and in all domains. This is also the view proposed by the Earth Charter: Humanity is part of a vast evolving universe. Earth, our home, is alive with a unique community of life (from the Preamble).
