The Earth Charter poster is built on the values expressed in Part II of the Earth Charter “Ecological Integrity”. The poster for kindergartens and primary schools was published in Tatarstan by the branch of the Earth Charter Affiliate in Russia, the Russian Center for Environmental Policy and Culture (RCEPC). The text was composed by a young biologist and a university assistant professor Elena Minakova. She was the driving force behind the establishment of the Earth Charter Center for ESD at the Kazan State Pedagogical University in the fall of 2008. The graphics belongs to N. Klimovskikh, a graduate student of the Department of Education.
In September 2009, students of UPEACE organized a celebration of the International Day of Peace. Especially for this event, Billene Seyoum wrote this beautiful poem about seeing “peace” in each of us.
This beautiful fairytale inspired by the Convention on the Rights of the Child was written by Volodymyr Motyrov during his internship in UNICEF. It also relates to the 4th pillar of the Earth Charter: Democracy, Nonviolence and Peace.
In the fall 2009 the Earth Charter Switzerland took part in the “Diversity” festival in Bern organised by the House of Religions. More than 250 families with children and guests came to celebrate diversity on this day. Here are some examples of children’s drawing that won the art contest during children activities: “I paint for the Earth!” and “Our wishes should come true!”
This beautiful improvisation on the main Charter`s themes was composed by the ECI Affiliate in Armenia, Association for Human Sustainable Development and it Head, Prof. Karine Danielyan. The story is a whimsical combination of Earth Charter values and the world-famous story The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. This small publication could be used as a resource for pre-school and primary education as a material for discussions, theater plays, essay topics and lessons of English, Armenian and Russian languages.
Singer Alfredo Estigarribia Lopez was inspired by the Ecological Movement of Paraguay to compose and record an “Earth Hymn” in homage to the Earth Charter. This song was presented during a special event at the headquarters of the National Commission for the Defense of Natural Resources. “Earth Hymn” is a tribute to the beauty of the world and of Paraguay.
This song offers the Earth Charter as an alternative to the destruction of the world and of the last flower of its kind, la ultima flor. Nehlin sent “La Ultima Flor” to hundreds of people as an Earth Charter promotion for the end of the millennium.
At the South Australia Earth Charter launch in 2000, students of Thomas More College sang an Earth Charter song written by Nick Vall. This song was a call for peace, justice, and an understanding that nature can provide everything that we need if we stop abusing it.
Earth Charter International (ECI) presents a very nice TV spot that was put together in Brazil and broadcasted in numerous TV Channels as a communication campaign to raise awareness about the Earth Charter. This campaign is anchored in this 60 seconds video, which was produced with drawings from children of an underprivileged community located in the surroundings of Sao Paulo. The whole effort counted with volunteer work of a number of individuals, specially a young woman that counts with good communication skills. “Llanto Verde” (Green Cry) is an itinerant exhibition of sixteen pictorial pieces of art inspired on the Earth Charter created by Lorena Priego, a Mexican architect and artist. Diversity of life and the Earth are part of this beautiful paintings with the purpose of propose and promote, through art, values and principles for the environmental protection. One of the goals of the artist is to sensitize people regarding the accelerated damage that humans are causing to the Earth, for them to acquire a sense of respect to all life on Earth through the dissemination of the 16 principles established in the Earth Charter and Llanto Verde.
