The decisions we make on what we consume every day have a bigger impact than we can perceive and understand in our own individual spheres. To move towards sustainable lifestyles we need to transform current production and consumption patterns, and the values associated to these patterns.
Consumers International and the Earth Charter International Secretariat are organizing a series of webinars, in Spanish, that aim to open a space to share information about what is the sustainable consumption and production perspective (SCP), the education for sustainable consumption (ECS), and what is going on in Latin America to promote these approaches.
In the first webinar we’ll talk about the SCP perspective, in the second one we’ll analyze what is happening with ECS, and possible synergies with education for sustainable development initiatives, specially related to Latin America. A third webinar will share the results of the World Conference on ESD, to be held in Japan, and discuss possibilities for collaboration in light of this Conference’s results. 
These webinars are organized as part of the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Development with the Earth Charter activities.
First Webinar: The sustainable consumption and production perspective
The Sustainable Consumption and Production Perspective refers to “the use of services and related products which respond to basic needs and bring a better quality of life while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations” (Oslo Symposium on Sustainable Consumption, 1994).
In this webinar, Adriana Zacarías Farah, Coordinator of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on SCP (10YFP), will talk about the actions that UN Enviornment Programme (UNEP) is doing on the SCP perspective globally and their plans for Latin America.
Then, Pedro Affonso Duarte Hartung, who is a lawyer working at ALANA Institute, a Brazilian NGO, will share with us this NGO’s interesting actions to project children from invasive marketing campaigns that promote unsustainable consumption patterns.

Speakers
Adriana Zacarías Farah is a graduate from Cambridge (UK) and ITAM (Mexico), and an international expert on sustainable consumption and production (SCP). As a project officer in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) she is the Coordinator of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on SCP (10YFP), Before the 10YFP she was also coordinating the Marrakech Process. Adriana was involved in the negotiations of the 10YFP during the Commission for Sustainable Development (CSD) in 2010 and 2012; and at the Rio+20 Conference in 2012.
Before joining UNEP, Mrs Zacarias worked as a consultant for the Environment Directorate at the OECD (2000-2002), as an adviser to the Environment Commission at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies (1998-1999), and as a Project Co-ordinator at the Environment Ministry of Mexico (1993-1997). In 1999 Mrs Zacarias Co-founded the UNEP Youth Advisory Council (today TUNZA).
Pedro Affonso D. Hartung is a lawyer that Works at Instituto ALANA in Brazil. He has a Doctorate in State Law from the University of Sao Paulo. He’s also a member of the National Council of Children and Youth Rights (Conanda) and coordinator of Luiz Gama Human Rights Clinic.
