March 1st 2010 was a special day for youth leaders in Cameroon as AFREDECC, an Earth Charter Youth Group, organized a seminar called “Emerging Leaders Cameroon”. In this event the Earth Charter and e-GLO 2 lessons were used to inspire youth leadership in this central and western African country. The seminar took place at the Barracuda hall at Hotel Seme Beach Limbe.
The schedule of the seminar consists of the following components:
- Ndenge Godden Zama, the Coordinator of AFREDECC-ECYG, discussed on how the Earth Charter could be used by the Youth Leaders in Cameroon
- Awa Innocent Ndah presented a topic of “Emerging Leaders of the 21st Century and Emerging Challenges”
- David Achianga addressed the relationship between popular culture and youth volunteerism and activism
- John Abasiama spoke about the Morality and Sustainable Leadership
The event was the first of its kind in a country were youth activism and leadership is considerably low. Unsurprisingly, however, there is much need for youth participation in Cameroon’s development process. At the end of the seminar, the participating 50 youth leaders agreed to form an organization for youth development in Cameroon. The next goal is to organize a similar event by the end of this year, and this time with an aim that more youth could benefit from the inspirational experience.
