On April 22, 2010, the International Earth Day, A Carta da Terra, the Brazilian extension of the international movement “The Earth Charter”, launches its first world campaign entirely developed in Brazil to mark its tenth anniversary. On that same day, the Earth’s Flag shall be solemnly hoisted by girls and boys at the Parque Ibirapuera in São Paulo.
The campaign called It starts with You, developed by volunteers of the movement, takes us to Ghandi’s philosophy that reminds us that the changes we wish to see in the world begin with each individual.
The Secretariat of the Environment of São Paulo, through UMAPAZ, carried out the Dissemination Program for the Earth Charter in the municipal education network that comprises 30 decentralized groups in different parts of the city, reaching close to 800 schools. Sixty-five thousand copies of the Charter were printed and distributed to all the teachers of the municipal network and now is joining this international campaign.
