Report of activities Earth Charter Affiliate Egypt 2018

Cleantech Arabia, Earth Charter Affiliate in Egypt, is a non-profit organization with a mission to advance job creation, local economic development, and environmental protection in the Arab World. One of Cleantech Arabia’s projects is Ark Camp.

Ark’s Camp mission is to create transformative outdoor learning experiences to introduce and inspire sustainable development education and conservation efforts. This will empower youth to take an active role in environmental conservation, find sustainable solutions to rising challenges, and change unsustainable personal behaviors that ultimately have a negative impact on our world.

In 2018, Ark Camp developed a curriculum  about waste management that could be implemented over four days. Ark Camp was launched in February 2019 with The Planetarium science Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the course of two consecutive weekends in which they organized two workshops with 20 participants,  and fieldtrips with 16 female students from schools and universities focusing on waste management.

Menna Sabry, coordinator of Ark’s Camp, participated in the International Forum on Democracy and Civic Education in Colombia, from 11 to 13 June 2018.  In this forum, she made a presentation called “When students are mobilized, my country advances” in which she introduced The Earth Charter Initiative and what she learned in the EC Education Programme that she attended in Costa Rica.
