Earth Charter International (ECI) actively participated in anniversary celebration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, also known as Global Goals, during the Act4SDGs Week at University for Peace (Upeace) in Costa Rica.
Between the 23rd and the 27th of September, ECI staff planted trees and also promoted a dialogue around the Earth Charter, the UN Goals for 2030 and how every human, state and institution can contribute to this agenda.
The trees planted are called Roble de Sabana in Spanish (in English rosy trumpet tree, or its scientific name Tabebuia rosea), a neotropical tree native of the area where UPEACE and Earth Charter facilities are located.
With UPEACE students, the Earth Charter was presented as an accelerator and ethical framework to guide and inspire actions towards the Global Goals. Click here to see more pictures.
The Act4SDGs Week is an annual call to action for individuals and organisations across the world to accelerate action for the Sustainable Development Goals. Also, during this week, world leaders are meeting at the UN Headquarters for five milestone UN Summits: the Climate Action Summit, the UN High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage, the first-ever SDG Summit after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development and the SAMOA Path-way Midterm Review.
