Session Title: Radical Hope, World-affirming Spirituality, and Intergenerational Action: The Earth Charter Vision

Session Description:
Crafted by visionaries twenty years ago, the Earth Charter is a document with sixteen principles that resulted from a decade-long, global participatory consultation process. It seeks to inspire in all people a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the
well-being of the whole human family, the greater community of life, and future generations. It is a vision of hope and a call to action.
The purpose of the webinar is to provide a substantive introduction and overview of the Earth Charter. The underlying question is “of what value might the Earth Charter be for individuals and organizations at this critical moment?”
Speakers will also comment on the relevance of the Earth Charter as it applies to the current context of accelerated change, complexity and uncertainty. Jimenez will talk about the Earth Charter as a document and movement. Bennett will bring a youth perspective of the Earth
Charter and how young people have been using it. Crowell will reflect on the educational and spiritual dimensions of the Earth Charter. Corcoran will explore the Earth Charter’s efficacy through:
- radical hope based on prophetic imagination and unconditional love
- world-affirming spirituality rooted in indigenous ecological wisdom
- intergenerational action following from the principle of intergenerational equity and
arising from the need for intergenerational collaboration.
The webinar will be exploratory and participatory to the greatest extent possible within
the format.
