On Sunday, 20 December, the Earth Charter International Festival for Children took place with the purpose to sensitize and engage children with the message of the Earth Charter and offer a platform for them to share their thoughts, concerns and commitments. The event involved music, theatre and the contribution of children from Brazil, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, India, Japan, South Africa and Russia. It was broadcasted in Portuguese and English.
The programme was presented and hosted by Maria Paula, Brazilian actress, and had the participation of Carlinhos Brown (Brazilian singer and artist), Gilberto Gil and his granddaughter Flor Gil and many other singers such as: Xangai, Juraildes, Ana Person, Manassés and Lucy Rogério, Lídia Carollini, Fada Magrinha and Fernanda Araújo. Musical groups: Planeta Oca, Orquestra Cordas do Gama and Forria.
Over 1,000 people followed the 1:44 minutes event broadcasted live through YouTube and Facebook. The organization of the event was led by Associação Alternativa Terrazul, ECI Affiliated, and Fundação Esquel, in collaboration with Earth Charter International and the organizations that make up the Earth Charter Network in Brazil. It received the support of the Secretary of Environment of the city government of Brasilia and the Environment Committee of the Congress of Brasilia.
