For Earth Day this year, our Executive Director, Mirian Vilela, participated in a very special Women’s Event at EarthX held in Dallas. Every year EarthX organizes a major celebration with a sort of collection of conferences for #EarthDay. Among others, the objective is to offer a platform to show case good and concrete examples of what is being done to address major environmental challenges and climate change.
This special gathering brought together extraordinary women leaders, each working in different spheres to help build a more just and sustainable world. The focus was refreshingly solution-oriented: no dwelling on problems, just real-world examples of progress and innovation.

During the Fireside Chat on Climate Security panel, Mirian emphasized the value of the Earth Charter as an ethical compass and shared the work of Earth Charter International in nurturing a planetary consciousness and ethic of care. She underscored the urgent need to address ethical and ecological illiteracy of many so that current and future decision-makers are better equipped to recognize and respond to the climate crisis as a matter of human security. And highlighted that the work the Earth Charter Center on Education does is precisely to address this vacuum and urgent need.
She shared this session with Dr. Svitlana Krakovska (Ukrainian climate scientist and IPCC member). Both stressed that the climate crisis should be considered as a matter of human security.
The event, organized by Joan Michelson, from the Electric Ladies Podcast and William Bridge of Global Green, counted with:
🍃 Inspiring stories of women-led efforts in climate finance, sustainable innovation, and creative climate communication.
🍃 An outstanding panel on “Food, Fashion & Agriculture” featuring regenerative farming, sustainable cotton networks in India, and new environmentally friendly textiles.
