Celebrating Earth Charter 25+: Dialogue, Art, and Pedagogy for Sustainability in Norway

On 25 September, an Earth Charter 25+ event took place at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), Campus Drammen, Norway. The event was part of the National Science Week, a nationwide initiative held annually to make research accessible to the public. This special occasion was organized by Earth Charter Norway and the two USN research groups Learning, Education and Teaching for Sustainability and Pedagogical Philosophy.

The main purpose of the event was to celebrate the Earth Charter by inviting researchers, artists, educators, coaches, and board members to share their reflections on the vision and mission of both the document and the movement. The Earth Charter was reflected in many ways, including research presentations, dialogues, meditations, visual art exhibitions, musical performances, and a short film.

From the bouquet of contributors (collage in the photo), we highlight and share two links:

The world premiere of The Diamond, especially composed for this 25+ event by Sveinung Nygaard, offered the audience a unique and memorable 40-minute magical musical experience.

The short film The Quest for the EcoSelf, based on an ongoing pedagogical action research project with the staff of Klokkergaarden Culture and Nature Kindergarten in Drammen, was shown and commented on by the kindergarten staff as their contribution to the EC+25 event. It was also an outstanding way to take this day’s sharing to a high standard.

The Earth Charter+25 event in Norway was crowned at the end of the day by a highly inspiring Zoom dialogue with colleagues from Earth Charter International—Mirian Vilela, Alicia Jimenez, and Sam Crowell. Thank you for sharing your reflections and for supporting our work. This exchange brought new energy to the ongoing exploration of an Earth Charter Pedagogy.
