Planetary Consciousness, Ethics of Care and Intergenerational Justice
1 – 3 July 2025, The Netherlands

Join us as we celebrate and honor the Earth Charter, launched 25 years ago. We are grateful for 25 years of inspiration in turning conscience into action. The first sentence of the Earth Charter is more relevant than ever:
“We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history, a time when humanity must choose its future.”
This is our moment.
The three-day event, titled “Planetary Consciousness, Ethics of Care, and Intergenerational Justice,” will strengthen the Earth Charter’s position as a vision of radical hope and ethical guide in uncertain times.
We will celebrate 25 years of ongoing intercultural, interfaith, and intergenerational collaboration and wisdom sharing.
During this event, we will explore our impact and emphasize our shared responsibility to care for the planet and future generations. And you can be part of this. Don’t miss this opportunity to join the Earth Charter community gathering.
Prepare for three days of inspiration with an exceptional lineup of speakers and participants who are leading the way toward a more peaceful, just, and nature-inclusive world.
Prepare to fill your heart and mind with radical hope for the future of all life and a shared belief in the power of care and an open mindset.
Context/Background:
Launched in 2000, the Earth Charter is a call to action, a declaration of hope that provides a comprehensive and ethical foundation for the Earth community at the dawn of the new century and millennium. Over the past 25 years, we have faced numerous challenges impacting the well-being of life on Earth and our aspirations for greater justice and peace. At the same time, there has been a growing recognition that we must take responsibility for caring for the well-being of present and future generations, the community of life and Earth.
In 2025, it is time to reflect, take stock, and consider the higher purpose of the Earth Charter movement. This gathering will reinforce our commitment, create synergies with other movements, and turn conscience into action for a thriving Earth.
Over the past two decades, our understanding of the rights of nature, intergenerational justice, and climate change has deepened. There is also a growing recognition of how sustainability and peace are interdependent—reflected in initiatives such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, UNESCO policies increasingly emphasize education for change, fostering values of global citizenship and sustainability.
This conference will explore how the Earth Charter intersects with these global efforts.
“We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations.” (The Earth Charter Preamble)
Purpose:
In a world where war, violence, and division seem ever-present, the Earth Charter +25 event offers a much-needed antidote: radical hope.
The event will highlight the power of transformative action and ethical leadership, uniting diverse voices across generations to address today’s crises and build a more just and sustainable future.
This three-day gathering will bring together global leaders, activists, and visionaries to explore how we can face unprecedented global challenges and build a future rooted in the Earth Charter’s principles.
This event is not just about reflecting on the past 25 years—it is a call to action. It is a call for all generations to come together, break down barriers, and spark a movement of hope that transcends borders, ideologies, and fears.
A key outcome will be the strengthening of intergenerational networks—empowering youth as tomorrow’s leaders while honoring the wisdom of elders. This collaborative dynamic will ensure an inclusive and sustainable future.
