The activity: “The Earth Charter and My Community 2030,” was organized by Earth Charter Young Leaders (ECYL): Rocío Collantes from Panama, Julián Arias Varela from Costa Rica and Ana Karen Proa from Mexico. These ECYLs are participating in the 2030 Agenda Ambassadors Programme, promoted by The Millennials Movement in strategic alliance with the United Nations SDG Action Campaign for the facilitation of the 2030 My World Survey, Project Everyone through the World’s Greatest Lesson campaign and the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UN-MGCY), in commemoration of the 74th Anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Charter.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Objectives contained in it are part of a global plan to achieve sustainable development by 2030, and our country is one of the 193 countries that adopted the Agenda and committed to its implementation. The activity “The Earth Charter and My Community 2030,” uses public spaces as meeting and discussion spaces to sensitize and involve individuals in concrete actions to contribute to the 2030 Agenda and the success of the Sustainable Development Goals from their own community. The activity seeks to promote the understanding and articulation of these approaches with their daily lives.
The 2030 Agenda for Citizen Ambassadors is a 6-month programme that promotes the involvement of civil society organizations led or working with youth from the Latin American and Caribbean Region, in the processes of citizen awareness, implementation and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in their communities. Through a process of construction and capacity building around the scope of the Agenda, which allows the articulation of the objectives of the organizations participating organizations with the SDGs and the provision of tools, as well as key alliances for action. The programme is promoted by The Millennials Movement in a strategic alliance with the United Nations SDG Action Campaign for the facilitation of the My World 2030 survey and the Project Everyone through the World’s Greatest Lesson initiative.
Earth Charter Young Leaders Rocío Collantes from Panama, Julián Arias Varela from Costa Rica and Ana Karen Proa from Mexico, thank the participation of the students of the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Panama, to the special guests: Lic. Holanda Hernández – Deputy Secretary of Proceedings of the National College of Diplomats of Panama, His Excellency Marcelino Avilés Valdespino – Ambassador of Panama in the Commonwealth of Australia, Astrid Araúz – Manager of Astriid Artesanías 507 and especially, Prof. Samuel Prado – Deputy Director of the Center for Democratic and Political Research, Abdiel Salazar – Secretary of Finance and Darisnel Aguilar – President of the Academic Association of Students of Political Science of Panama, Alexandra González – President of the Academic Association of International Law and the Administration of the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Panama. for promoting, facilitating the space and the protocol team, and giving them the opportunity to carry out the activity: “The Earth Charter and My Community 2030,” for the well-being of children and young people, who are the future of world peace.
