We are strolling through a park, a squirrel scurries up a tree, the birds are singing, and sunlight softly beams through the leaves. The mornings are getting colder, crisper air. We greet a young woman walking with her dog, she smiles back, it is a quiet moment before the city awakes, and the hustle and bustle of the new day begins. Leaving the park we walk into a small street, behind the windows children and adults are getting ready for the day, bags are packed, lunches are made, muffled sounds come through the half-open windows. The sound of glass falling into the recycling bin echoes through the street, cars are starting, and a tram is packed with commuters. We turn into our garden, seeing our autumn broad beans and onions growing, the herbs cozy behind the kitchen window. Inside the radio broadcasts about wildfires, followed by the 6th mass extinction, and the lack of education in rural areas of Pakistan. We look at each and know that at this moment we are both thinking about our shared Earth, of her beauty, wildness, and fragility, about all the people and other animals to whom we are connected, together in an ever-changing world.
