Thursday, 13 March 2025, 2:00pm Costa Rica – 4:00pm EST – 9:00pm Amsterdam – 7:00am Melbourne (following day)

In this Webinar we will reflect on the major challenges are currently facing, the 25 years of the Earth Charter’s journey, and explore the role it can play in helping us address these challenges.
We will engage in a conversation on the urgent need to reinforce efforts and collaboration in creating pathways to a more just, sustainable and peaceful world. And further explore the role the Earth Charter and the Earth Charter movement plays and can play in addressing this most pressing challenge of our time.
We will delve into the vision behind the creation of the Earth Charter, reflecting on the historic moment when its drafting was completed during the last meeting of the Earth Charter Commission at UNESCO Headquarters on 13 March 2000.
Examples of questions we will look at:
- What has been the journey of the Earth Charter over the past 25 years and what is its relevance now?
- How do we understand the current challenges and how the Earth Charter can support moving forward with a vision of a just, sustainable and peaceful world?
- The Earth Charter emphasizes the importance of an Ethic of Care in its call for a more just and sustainable world. What is the unique value the Earth Charter brings? And how can this ethical framework be further integrated into global decision-making processes, particularly in areas like climate justice and human rights?
- Intergenerational justice is a central theme in the Earth Charter. What does it mean? Why is that important? And what concrete steps should be made in the next 5 and 20 years to ensure that future generations inherit a planet capable of sustaining life and thriving communities?
