Greening skills for sustainable development

UNESCO Santiago and the UNESCO Chair on ESD with the Earth Charter have collaborated to provide a training process for members of the Latin America and Caribbean regional ESDNet2030 and other key stakeholders to enhance national, subregional and regional efforts to mainstream ESD and the greening education materials. Special focus was made on the UNESCO Greening Education Partnership materials and resources highlighting the importance of Climate Education.

Objectives of this capacity building project:

1) Disseminate across LAC the global guidelines on greening curricula and schools

2) Strengthen the capacities of Member States and stakeholders to implement ESD priority action areas through greening curricula and schools.

3) Share knowledge, good practices and lessons learnt from implementers of greening education across LAC.

4) Identify initiatives that are already being implemented that can be inspiring for Member States and key actors to achieve green education as a means for ESD.

The capacity building process took place online, from December 2025 to January 2026.  It started with a public event to launch the Green Education Alliance materials and four training sessions exclusive for the ESD2030 regional network, UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network coordinators, and members of the environmental education network coordinated by UNEP. The sessions had translation Spanish-English.

There were 235 participants in the public event and 62 participants, with 14 panelists participating in the training sessions, from 21 countries.  The following are the sessions and dates when they took place:
