Conversation and webinar with Leonardo Boff

The Earth Charter Center for Education for Sustainable Development and the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University for Peace is organizing a live and online seminar with Leonardo Boff called “The Emerging Paradigm of Knowing How to Care” on Thursday, April 4th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM (Costa Rica Time), in the Earth Charter Center, located at the University for Peace, Ciudad Colon, San José.

The event will also launch the book “Decolonizing Peace” by Victoria Fontan, Professor at the University for Peace.

This seminar seeks to open a space for discussion and reflection on values in education for sustainable development and is organized within the framework of the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Development with the Earth Charter.

Boff will reflect on two of his books related to the topic of the seminar, one entitled The Necessary Care (2012), in which he articulates that care and sustainability go hand in hand, reinforcing one another mutually. According to him, if care is absent, it will be difficult to maintain sustainability in the medium and long term. These are the two pillars that support the necessary transformation of the mode of living on Earth. In an earlier book entitled Knowing How to Care: Human Ethics (1999), Boff writes about care in its various forms: caring for the Earth, the body, society, and the spirit. From the perspective of care a new ethic emerges that inspires fundamental values and attitudes of humanity’s phase of global citizenship.

We will be broadcasting this webinar live (in Spanish only). Here is the information:
