Earth Charter Brochure Design Contest Winners announced!

The Earth Charter 2012 Brochure and Poster Design Contest is officially over and we have a winner and two finalists. The contest received entries from all over the world and the judges had a difficult time deciding which design most fitted the Earth Charter’s aesthetic but which was also modern and attractive. In the end, 3rd year graphic design student Melody Wai of Canada took home the grand prize, $1,000 donated by the Costa Rican telecommunications company, ICE.

To the right you can see Melody’s cover design. This is what she had to say about her idea for the design:

“The idea behind my entry is that every aspect of the Earth Charter is interconnected in some shape or manner, even if individual aims are of separate principles. As this is an honest and straight-forward charter, I decided to go with simpler graphics to convey this sense. An earthy colour scheme was used to play off of the word Earth, and the four main principle symbols were reused to emphasize the importance of each.”

We congratulate Melody for her excellent work and are certain that she’ll continue to bring her talents to worthwhile causes in the future.

There were also two runners-up, Hadassah Cruz and Samar Ibrahim. Hadassah brought a very modern and clean sensibility to her design and made the judges decision very difficult. Her poster design, at left, is visually creative and fun to look at.

Finally, Samar Ibrahim’s clean and serious design was excellent and her choice of colors was on the mark. Her poster design was very well-liked by the judges for it’s organization and clarity.

Earth Charter International was honored to be able to work with these talented young designers and we hope to be able to continue to support the burgeoning careers of young talent in the future as well.

Thanks for all who entered and keep up the great work in the future!
