Earth Charter Initiative to be recognized as a significant movement in the field of sustainability empowerment

The Earth Charter Initiative is one of the nominees to be recognized for its effort in empowering people towards sustainability.

The “e Award” seeks to identify and recognize initiatives in the field of sustainable development undertaken over the past 20 years. The award is a collaborative effort organized by Instituto e, the local government of the city of Rio de Janeiro, and UNESCO.

The categories to be recognized, for national or international projects, are: Earth (terra), environment (meio ambiente), energy (energia), education (educação), empowerment (empoderamento), and economics (economia).

This award will be based on public voting. You can vote for the Earth Charter Initiative in the empowerment category here.

The E-AWARD will have its first edition during Rio + 20.

“…sharing information and experiences is the first step to contribute to sustainable human development. We are recognizing and valuing individuals and initiatives that, based on the legacy of Rio 92, turned concepts into actions, calling the world’s attention to the urgency of taking action in favor to our planet” states Oskar Metsavaht .

The event is part of the official agenda of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development and the ceremony will take place on June 16, at 6PM, at the Copacabana Fort, in the presence of authorities and some of the world’s experts in sustainability and environment.

“Among the winners are exponents of the environmental movement worldwide and in Brazil. It is a demonstration that it is impossible to think of sustainability without local and global dialogue” synthesizes Nina Braga, director of Instituto-e.
