Earth Charter International Secretariat Departures and Arrivals

After 3 years of service and dedication, Jaana Laitinen, the EC Youth Coordinator is moving on. Jaana has been a great asset to the Earth Charter’s Youth focus group and has fostered wonderful progress in attracting young activists and empowering them to act on behalf of sustainable development. Jaana is moving back to her homeland of Finland, although she will continue to be active in EC activities. The Secretariat, the EC Youth, and the EC Initiative will miss her passion and energy and wish her the best in her new challenge.

Taking up the reins of the International Youth Coordinator position is Nora Mahmoud.  Nora was born and raised in New York City to a Tunisian father and American mother. She has worked extensively in various youth programs in New York City, interned for several international organizations such as UNICEF, and is a Sociologist with a Master’s Degree in Peace Education. She is a strong believer in the Earth Charter and its principles to create a more sustainable future and is really looking forward to employing her educational background and experiences for the benefit of Earth Charter’s youth network.

Also joining the Earth Charter International Secretariat as the Interactive and Social Media Coordinator is Douglas F. Williamson. Douglas will be leading ECI’s efforts to ramp up its online presence and communication through social media, the Web site, and online tools and channels. Douglas has been an active Earth Charter volunteer for many years. He is also a New Yorker, has Masters Degrees in International Affairs and in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development, and has worked for the UN University, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and for international environmental NGOs. Douglas is very excited to undertake this new and cutting-edge challenge.
