First Stage of Euro Arab Youth Sustainability Leadership Forum Completed

The first stage of the Euro-Arab Youth Sustainability Leadership Forum — Moving Beyond Just Tolerance was a success and included four interactive and engaging online sessions for two hours a week, with the active participation of 15 European and 15 Arab youth, representing over 17 different countries regionally.

We had some excellent guest speakers who joined us in our online sessions to share their experiences about intercultural dialogue and how we can apply them in our contexts. Some of these guest speakers included Dr. Amr Abdalla, the University for Peace’s Vice Rector, and Ebrima Dem, the National Coordinator of Global Unification the Gambia. To listen to our online sessions, please visit our Wikispace page.

The youth participants have now been divided into four groups (ensuring that there is an equal amount of European youth with Arab youth respectively) and their assignment will be to work together online to create a multicultural project that can be implemented within their respective contexts. The aim of the collaboration is to enhance the level of intercultural dialogue for sustainability. The ultimate goal is to further develop the capabilities necessary to conduct intercultural dialogue and youth leadership through Earth Charter inspired action projects in the participants’ own communities. Everyone will have a month to complete their projects and from May 1 – 7 participants will meet face-to-face at the Alexandria Bibliotheca in Alexandria, Egypt to present their projects to each other and other relevant organizations from the region.

We are truly looking forward to seeing what Earth Charter inspired intercultural sustainability projects the participants will create!
