Rethinking Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean

UNESCO Regional Office of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC / UNESCO Santiago) and the UNESCO Office in Mexico, organized the Regional Consultation to advance in the elaboration of the UNESCO Regional Strategy around the target 4.7 of the 2030 Education Agenda. This meeting was held in the City of Guadalajara, Mexico, on September 9 and 10, 2019.

Following the mandate of the Ministries of Education through Buenos Aires Declaration of 2017, UNESCO pledged to design and implement “comprehensive education programs for sustainable development (ESD) and global citizenship (GCE), l to acquire values and attitudes linked to human rights, gender equality, a culture of nonviolence, peace and coexistence; environmental protection and skills to face the challenges of climate change.

Earth Charter International was invited to participate in this meeting, as part of a group of 30 experts in the areas of education, global citizenship and sustainable development, in order to give advice and recommendations that will contribute to guide the development of the strategy, specifically with regards to its vision, objectives, thematic components and guidelines of work and action, among other key elements.
