First describing the origin and principles of the Earth Charter, as well as the historical and modern concept of dialogue, this paper discusses how the Earth Charter, as a basis for intercultural dialogue, could foster understanding and respect. It then discusses how the Earth Charter could be used as a tool for intercultural dialogue in education, and ways in which these dialogues have the potential to initiate global action. Finally, the author proposes a structure for intercultural dialogue in institutions of higher education, and possible challenges.
