Earth Charter International warmly welcomes Laura Restrepo Alameda to the Earth Charter Council, recognizing her as an inspiring educator and young leader whose work embodies ethical commitment, social justice, and the transformative power of youth in shaping a sustainable future.
“The polycrisis we inhabit reminds us that climate change is only a symptom of a deeper wound: our disconnection from life. Healing that wound means recognizing the pain of peoples, animals, and the Earth; it means transforming everyday genocide into a new ethic of care, justice, and interdependence; it means acknowledging that walking the Earth is both a right and an expression of the search for a dignified life — because, in the end, we are all inhabitants of the same Earth, without borders that divide us or origins that separate us.” Laura Restrepo Alameda
Laura currently serves as Advocacy Officer at the Climate Action Network Latin America (CANLA), where she leads bi-regional processes on just transition, climate justice, and cooperation between Europe and Latin America, engaging in multilateral spaces that bridge regions and perspectives. She is also the co-founder and national co-facilitator of the Colombian Platform for Children and Youth, an organization that advises LCOY Colombia and promotes the participation of girls, adolescents, and young people in climate action. In addition, Laura is part of the regional front of World’s Youth for Climate Justice, advocating for the recognition of climate change as a human rights issue.
As a dedicated volunteer, she serves as Vice President of Strategic Development at SPEED (Student Platform for Engineering Education Development) and is an Ambassador of the Institute for Economics and Peace as well as of the En-ROADS Simulator (MIT + Climate Interactive). Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with the “Epic Woman 2022” award by Level Magazine and the ITRI Visionary Young Leaders Award 2023.
Her vision is to cultivate ethical leadership and collective transformation, inspiring others to see climate action as a pathway toward a more equitable, peaceful, and caring world.
