August 2013 EC Youth Group of the Month – AIDEST from Uganda

Congratulations to our August 2013 Youth Group of the Month, AIDEST (Africa Intercultural Development Support Trust) from Uganda!

AIDEST is currently implementing a project called Youth Production and Skills Training [YPST], which aims to train and empower the youth through education. The program now helps 460 young women and men to acquire skills that will help them to increase their involvement in their community through economic and income generating activities. Current activities include tailoring and fashion designing, leather-works training, hairdressing & beauty care, agro-business, environmental protection and advocacy, and secretarial studies, including computer and entrepreneurship basic training as integral part of the program.

The project is currently being operated in the Mukono district, and later on it will be expanded in other districts such as Kayunga and Masaka in central Uganda, and Karamoja, an eastern region of the country where war conflicts and displacement of persons have lingered for more than twenty years. The 1%Club platform helped them to establish the youth skills and literacy training center where these programs are being carried out.
