On Monday, December 17, 2012 we celebrate 12 and half years of the Earth Charter. We do this by organizing the first Our Moving Borders seminar about the practice of international cooperation. The perspectives, interests, and orientation of international businesses, governments, NGOs, and citizens are generally quite different. How do we achieve results together, using each other’s strengths? Together we will define the relevant themes for the future of international cooperation using the Earth Charter as inspiration and moral compass to address dilemmas.
The Corporate and Social Responsibility Academy in the Netherlands is organizing this event in Rotterdam to celebrate the 12 and half year anniversary of the Earth Charter. The Academy is collaborating closely with former Dutch Prime Minister and Earth Charter Commissioner Ruud Lubbers and Earth Charter International Council co-Chair Alide Roerink, and with young people in the development sector.
The Academy also intends to to publish a booklet with interviews of Earth Charter friends who apply the Earth Charter in their work, with a foreword by Ruud Lubbers. The Academy has invited many new business and academic leaders to participate in the event, among them Peter Bakker, president of the World Business Council on Sustainable Development.
The event will be live streamed, and people can participate remotely or go and join a round table discussion in embassies in select countries (Cairo and Shanghai have already accepted).
