Select Season
Listen to this episode: Duration: 51 min.
Quick Overview
In this interview with David O. Wiebers, the concept of “compassion for all life” is discussed as the pinnacle of human existence, surpassing scientific achievement. He believes that when compassion drives our actions, it nurtures creativity, wisdom, and is vital for the survival of both humanity and other species. In his 2012 book Theory of Reality, Wiebers challenges traditional scientific views of consciousness, proposing that consciousness is not just a product of the brain but the foundational fabric of the universe, influencing free will and self-awareness. He explains that expanding our awareness can unlock hidden abilities and foster personal growth. Wiebers also highlights how neuroscience concepts, like resilience and coherence, enhance creativity and social transformation. He critiques the “human-centric paradigm,” urging a shift to a all life-centric or eco-centric approach that acknowledges the interconnectedness of all life forms, especially in the context of climate change and environmental challenges. Reflecting on his 35 years with the Humane Society of the United States, he calls for more collective action for animal protection and the acknowledgment of all sentient beings including nonhuman animals. As Executive Chair of the All Life Institute, Wiebers advocates for a global, all life-centric approach aligned with the Earth Charter to promote sustainability and justice.
