The third e-GLO 2 session, Intercultural / Interpersonal Communicative Competence was held on Saturday Oct 3rd, 2009.
The minutes of the session can be reviewed here.

“The 3rd e-GLO session was about Intercultural / Interpersonal Communicative Competence and how and why it’s relevant for sustainability leaders and the local level action projects. Together we discussed about the roles played by sustainable leaders.
One of the points of the discussion was related to the personal empathy and the effective abilities of communication, such as compassion, humility and perseverance, among others. Through interactive activities, where everybody was invited to express their own opinions on how we can improve our course and enrich our sustainability path, the time passed quickly. But what more happily surprised me in that session was that I faced a thrilling mosaic of perceptions from people who are really making the difference.
Young people who are acting, re-acting, involved with, developing sustainability… Thinking on how to better communicate with others. I (and think we all) realized that there are many different realities; from Kirghistan to Mexico, passing through Indonesia, Europe, Africa, Canada and Brazil. We are all taking action! Setting targets, mobilizing people and being eco-friendly, open to nice ideas, projects, discussions and action plans. We are communicating. Now.
Sometimes we can have a hard time with each other and misunderstanding happens. In a world with division, sharing our feelings without blame is as important as deep listening if we hope to build a common vision. The quote of the session that summarized all to me was borrowed from Mike (who got it from Dom Helder Camara, a noticed Brazilian catholic leader, 4 times nominated to Nobel Peace Prize) : “When we are dreaming alone, it is only a dream. When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality”.
Thanks e-GLO! It has been amazing!”
