Earth Charter International participated in the UNESCO 2019 Forum on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship, that took place on 2 to 3 July, and after that, the Meeting of the Global Partner Network for Education for Sustainable Development (GAP – ESD), on 4 and 5 July in Hanoi, Vietnam.
More than 300 people from education institutions from all over the world participated in the initial Forum, where Alicia Jimenez, ECI staff member was one of the panelist in a concurrent session on education for sustainable development in practice.
Earth Charter International is one of the members of the GAP – ESD, in this sense, it was important to attend this global meeting because important decisions were taken and informed about the future of this UNESCO Programme. The new Programme will be launched in Germany, 2-4 June 2020, hosted by the Government of this country. The idea is to align more closely the ESD Agenda to the SDGs, and therefore the name will probably be ESD 2030.
UNESCO will be supporting nationwide multi-stakeholder initiatives that put in practice the skills, content and pedagogy associated to education for sustainable development. In addition, it will continue to organize a global network of key partners that are experts on ESD, that could provide support to the nationwide initiatives and governments.
