Webinar: Climate Change Science, Policy and Ethics, Towards Warsaw and beyond

This webinar will present the current situation of climate change from a scientific, political and ethical perspective, putting special emphasis on its relation with youth and The Earth Charter, in order to have a better understanding of the current and future climate summits and its implications for sustainable development.

The topics and pannelists are:

Brendan Mackey is Director of the Griffith Climate Change Response Program. He has a PhD in ecology from the Australian National University. Brendan’s research addresses (1) the interactions between climate change, biodiversity and land use, (2) the role of science in policy formulation of environmental regulatory frameworks, and (3) the nexus between climate change responses and sustainable development. He has a special interest in the science and policy of ecosystem-based adaptation and mitigation and related public policy issues.  He is a member of the International Council for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).  Brendan serves on various governmental advisory bodies including the science advisory group to the Climate Change Commission. He has written over 150 academic publications including journal articles, books and books chapter.

Juliette Decq is a Master student in « Environmental Sciences and Policies » at Sciences Po Paris and Université Pierre et Marie Curie. She is mostly studying climate science and politics. She is involved in the Think & Do Tank CliMates as Action Team Director and is coordinating the COP in MyCity project. She has a special interest in climate change education and in global youth climate movements during the preparation phase of COP21.

Marcello Hernández is the International Youth Coordinator at the Earth Charter International Secretariat. He has a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. Currently he is pursuing a second master’s degree in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health in the University of Edinburgh. He is involved in a Costa Rican youth network focused on climate change and is part of the Climate Reality Project of Al Gore. As ECI Youth Coordinator his main responsibilities are to raise awareness of the Earth Charter to youth and to facilitate dialogue and capacity building to youth groups. He is also coordinating an on line youth open/wiki space for sharing experiences.
