The Earth Charter International is honored to welcome Dr. Utak CHUNG to the Earth Charter Council. With decades of service in global education, sustainable development, and international collaboration, Dr. Chung’s expertise and vision will enhance our efforts to foster sustainability, peace, and global responsibility.
Dr. Chung is currently an Adjunct Professor at Kyung Hee University, Seoul, Korea, where he teaches courses on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), International Organizations, and Global Citizenship Education at Humanitas College. In addition, he serves as the Senior Advisor for Global Partnership Education (GPE) in Korea, where he actively promotes international cooperation for equitable and inclusive education.
His career highlights include serving as the 4th and 5th Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), a UNESCO Category 2 Centre, from 2012 to March 2019. Dr. Chung played a pivotal role in advancing the adoption of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) as a key component of UNESCO’s Education 2030 Agenda and UN SDG 4.7.
Dr. Chung holds a Ph.D. in International Organizations, as well as a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science, all from Sogang University, Korea. His rich academic and professional journey exemplifies the values of the Earth Charter, and we are confident that his insights and leadership will make a profound impact on our work.
